Welcome to John Brighter Street! BID installs new lighting on popular street

Central BID is pleased to announce its investment in new festoon lighting along John Bright Street in Birmingham city centre.

The street is home to an eclectic mix of businesses, from letting agents to independent cafes, national hospitality and food venues, a hotel, casino, a mix of residential apartments and the nationally renowned Alexandra Theatre.

Over 300 metres of festoon lights have been installed in time for the Birmingham Light Festival which takes place from Wednesday 19th to Friday 21st February 2025.

Funded directly by Central BID, the LED festoon lights will also stay bright long after the festival to help support businesses throughout the year.

Controlled by timers, the LED lighting will prove to be a welcome addition to the area, making it feel safer and more welcoming for visitors and staff.

Steve Hewlett from Central BID said: “We are pleased to join forces with the other city centre BIDs to help create the inaugural Birmingham Light Festival, which we hope will be a spectacular annual addition to the city’s event calendar. The festoon lights along the street will stay long-term to help attract more customers to the area and builds on Central BID’s recent tree lighting installation along New Street.”

Jen Nadin, owner of the much-loved Cherry Reds café, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to the BID for installing new festoon lighting on John Bright Street. I know it will give such a positive lift to the businesses and help our customers, teams and visitors to our part of the city centre feel safer all year round.”

Becky Peers, Alexandra Theatre Manager, said: “It is fantastic to see the installation of new festoon lights along John Bright Street, helping light the way for people heading towards our beautiful theatre and our wonderful neighbours along the road. We are looking forward to the official switch on from Wednesday!”
