Primark thanks staff and customers for being on British High Streets for 50 years since September 26, 1974.
From its first store in Derby to the world’s biggest store in Birmingham city centre, Primark has grown to employ 30,000 staff and open over 450 stores across 17 countries during half a century.
Kari Rodgers, UK Retail Director for Primark, marked the special anniversary, noting that customer loyalty had played an important part since the brand was created by founder Arthur Ryan.
The huge Birmingham Primark store will feature images of the brand through the ages on its windows. Some of the photos issued by Primark can be seen here.
Kari said: “Over the last 50 years, British high streets and style have changed a lot and Primark has been there every step of the way. While we’ve evolved through the decades, our mission of helping people look and feel good for less remains as relevant today as it was then.
“We’ve paved the way for great quality, affordable fashion for everyone and I’m so grateful for the loyalty our amazing colleagues and customers have shown us.
“To still be proudly on the high street and growing is testament to them and we’re excited for what the next 50 years brings.”
Since opening in 2019, Primark Birmingham High Street has held the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest retail fashion store at 160,000 sq. ft. It now also has a Sponge Bob Square Pants Cafe.
Primark Birmingham can be found at 38 High Street, Birmingham, B4 7SL. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 8am to 9pm, and Sunday from 10.30am to 5pm.
