Inside Birmingham’s new bar by Michelin star chef

pink neon sign for bar

Michelin star chef Adam Stokes has launched Aphrodite’s Bar at his Oyster Club eatery in Temple Street and here’s a first look.

It’s only a short walk from the world-famous chef’s Adam’s Restaurant with its Michelin star and tasting menus in Waterloo Street in Birmingham city centre. Aphrodite’s Bar will be open from Wednesday through to Sunday.

A pink neon sign welcomes visitors into the stylish bar, which serves everything from cocktails and champagne to spirits and fine wines.

It’s all under the watchful eye of the stunning Goddess of Love Aphrodite, whose painting hangs enticingly on the far wall near an iced rack of fresh oysters.

Cocktails include the Aphrodite Sling for £14 that mixes flavours of gin, benedictine, cointreau, cherry and pineapple. There’s also a Kombucha Paloma for the same price featuring Reposado tequila, rhubarb and hibiscus kombucha.

Distinctive drinks include a Smoked Maple Old Fashioned for £16 with black walnut bitters added to bourbon and maple syrup before it is infused with smoke.

While Land of the Rising Sun cocktail, also £16, mixes Japanese gin with yuzu and sparkling sake. The popular Oyster Club Martini is also remaining on the house cocktail list.

The Oyster Club’s relaxed dining room below the bar has also had a refresh to coincide with the bar opening and it taking part in Birmingham Restaurant Festival throughout August.

A two course menu is available in The Oyster Club for £29 or three courses for £35 and you can see the Festival Menu here.

Like Aphrodite’s Bar, The Oyster Club is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from midday until late and available for lunch and dinner with some bookable tables here.

The Aphrodite’s team encouraged people to see the new bar posting: “With the goddess of love bringing a new breeze of life and energy to our bar renovations, comes as usual the beloved oysters and a brand new selection of cocktails the bar team has been whittling away on.

“Once again, our kitchen team is serving up the highest quality dishes. All visitors welcome, whether you are dining or not. If you fancy an after work tipple or a quick catch-up with your bestie over some cocktails and small plates, we’ve got you covered.”
