New shop opening for Deadstock General Store in Birmingham’s Great Western Arcade and here’s a first look inside at its homeware and lifestyle products.
Opening as a pop-up in the run up to Christmas, Deadstock General Store has already made a name for itself in Manchester.
Its beautiful and carefully curated items have even earned it a place in House & Garden’s list of top 50 best independent design shops in the UK. They praised it for being “an antidote to fast-paced, mass-produced quality of the homewares market today”.
Now expanding into Birmingham, the new city centre shop has the same Japanese and Scandinavian inspired homewares along with perfumes from France and New York plus candles from California.
Added to those are a wide range of accessories, stationery and gifts from around the world. That includes the charming Tibetan Tiger rugs that are hand-woven in India. You can see photos of these below.
Among the most eye-catching is a bright yellow smiley face lamp and rows of adorable ceramic ‘Ghosts and Lava’ from Copenhagen company Arhoj, which are said to bring good spirits, pictured below.
Shelves are full of distinctive lifestyle products including Cray-yon ear de parfum, Japanese glassware, Italian toothbrushes and leather writing journals.

Jason Ody, from Wolverhampton, who runs Birmingham’s Deadstock General Store, said: “We’ve been trading in Manchester for years and wanted to expand the business, so we are testing the water in Birmingham.
“Our products are very eclectic and carefully curated so shoppers can find very unique and rare items.”
The pop-up is in Birmingham until December 29 as the owner gauges the potential for a longer-term store in the city.
