Washington Green Fine Art celebrates 40 years with city centre exhibition

Washington Green Fine Art is celebrating its 40th anniversary with an exhibition of iconic artworks published over the last four decades at Victoria Square, throughout September 2024, in partnership with Central BID.

Founded in 1984 by Glyn Washington and Paul Green, Washington Green is the UK’s largest fine art publisher, setting the standard for excellence with a legacy of creativity, precision and innovation. It continues to honour this heritage by publishing the finest artworks in collaboration with leading contemporary artists, including global icons like Bob Dylan, Billy Connolly and Johnny Depp.

Its headquarters sit in the heart of the city at the Mailbox, whilst the publishing, framing and distribution teams are based in the industrial hub, Erdington.

Steve Hewlett, Central BID manager, said: “Washington Green is a global success story as fine art publishers, with a business founded in Birmingham 40 years ago and thriving today with galleries in the Mailbox, ICC and across the UK.

“This exhibition is an opportunity to showcase the incredible portfolio of artists currently represented by Washington Green and is part of Central BID’s strategy of displaying art across the city centre for visitors to enjoy all-year-round.”

Having acquired leading art retailer Castle Fine Art 20 years ago, Washington Green’s vast art portfolio is available through Castle Fine Art’s network of 38 UK galleries and its website.

“Imagine a white canvas or sheet of paper. The translation of idea into composition, and finally finished painting, is an inspiring process – and one through which the talent of the artist is so obvious to behold. Our artists are varied in their subject matter, methods and materials but are united in being the finest in their genre,” explained Glyn Washington, Co-founder and Creative Director, Washington Green Fine Art.

“For Washington Green, printmaking is an artform in itself, with detail at its core. The team uses a range of traditional techniques, including lithography, silkscreen and giclée, before mounting and framing each individual piece by hand using the finest materials to complement the artwork.”

“As one of the UK’s largest publishers of limited-edition prints, our aim from the very beginning has been to make art accessible to all, and in doing so we have also championed some of the world’s most exciting emerging and established talent – I am so proud of what we have achieved and look forward to the next 40 years,” added Paul Green, Co-founder, Washington Green Fine Art.
